I'm really happy and thankful we are getting great response to
Haywire Riot! I have already been thinking about the
next CD, and the songs, and have went into "writing mode"
Writing mode is a great place to be, when that's all you have
to do. But it can be frustrating when other duties call and interrupt
it. The phone. Band biz. Laundry. Today's distraction? Toilet repair.
Distractions can really put a kink in the hose (Sorry, I have water on my mind)
of inspiration. I draw material for songs from real life. It can take
some time to gather up life events, stories and happenings that
are worth being written about…things that mean something to
me as a writer, and that would be of interest to you as a listener.
If the songs I have been writing and reworking recently are any indication,
I can already say the next CD is going to be different from Haywire Riot.
Hopefully better, and even more diverse. I've got riffs and lines hitting me
from all sides, and I'm using my trusty iPhone to put the ideas down.
I know I need to shut the world out right now and start hammering out demos,
but it's nearly impossible to do. Just too much going on with the band
that I need to be available for. Not that I'm complaining. I'm happy about that!
But If I disappear from the band's web and social sites every now and then,
you'll know what I'm doing. Cranking up guitars and cranking out songs.
That's the reason I got in the music biz in the first place, to write and play!
There's an old saying that says "I hate to write, but I love to
have written" And that applies to me sometimes. But in order to
get to that point, the hard part has to be completed. And that's where I'm at.
Getting after it. Thanks for reading! Comments welcome!
