After a short hiatus from recording due to a hand injury, singer/ guitarist Mike
Estes has pronounced himself healed and has returned to Moss Rose studio
to resume recording Skinny Molly's third (as yet untitled) CD.
Mike is producing the CD with the rest of the band, and has some thoughts on
what's taking place in the studio: "We are onto something different, there's no
doubt. The songs are a little different, as far as there's more of a contrast in the
material. There are still some dark, even cynical lyrics happening like what run
a thread through the first two CDs, but this CD is probably a little more fun than
the first two. This band has a good time whenever we get together, and I think
more of that is coming through in the lyrics these days. I write the lyrics, and I'm
in a pretty good frame of mind here of late. I can really only write what comes out
and I can't put restrictions on what I write or try to steer things a certain way. I
think this CD will have more songs that are more along the lines of "Better Than
I Should" from the first CD. Instead of the lyrics being so dark, they are more about
coming out of the darkness. When we go out on the road, we have a big party
happening at the shows. I think some of that is gonna come through on this next
CD". The band has shows in the USA this Spring and returns to Finland and the
UK in May/June. Mike says, "The UK, especially around London, has been really
great to us. We are expanding in other Euro countries like Germany and the
Czech Republic. France has been really great too. We have a few festivals there
this year. Finland is, and will always be one of my favorite places to go. But we see
all kinds of great places and will get to go to some new ones this year, including
Ireland, and we're looking at going back to Sweden after a few years being gone.
I've kind of went the long way around here to get to my point, which is that we get
out on the road, we have a great time, and I think that it's coming out in some of the
new songs. On the other hand, the CD is only half recorded. I'm still writing stuff,
and you never know where the songs will go. Maybe one of the other guys will bring
in something like we've not done before. You just never know what will happen when
you are letting a song find you, instead of trying to force one, or trying to write a hit.
This is our ten year anniversary, I hope it's our best year yet, and I hope it's our best CD
yet too".
